  • In the magazine LeggereDonna, Carla Collina wrote: "I loved the first, Fiona Frank, who we were told to be not only a composer in her life but also a painter and poet, because she really knows how to describe magical atmospheres with notes: a musical interpretation of the divine feminine that culminates with a powerful melodious phrasing. At this time of the evening the pathos was really high, one could perceive in handling the musical instruments a profound synergy between the three artists, felt as a whole that enchanted and thrilled."

  • The piano piece "Signs of Change" received its world premiere, online, on Monday, 30th November 2020 in the '7 notes in 7 days at 7pm!' project, with thanks to Maria Marchant. The complete event, including Maria's commentary, is here

  • Fiona wrote of this: ‘Signs of Change’ is a highly charged and dramatic piece of writing. There is also some sadness in some of the harmonies. It opens with a declamatory introduction using a 4-note motif, which becomes extended melodically and harmonically throughout the work. There are glimmers of light, with a change of tempo to a dancing 6/8 and a momentary major, followed by some anchoring chords. We are plunged into maniacal descending semi-quavers and syncopations. The key hardly settles. The whole work is driven forward & downwards by shifting modulations & a wide range of contrasting dynamics and textures.

I want to thank Maria Marchant so much for her extraordinary performance & interpretation of my piece 'Signs of Change', which I have dedicated to her. I feel that Maria got right inside the notes and played them from the inside out! A remarkable experience. So deep and dark and expressive & filled with drama & power. I was on the edge of my seat! Thankyou so much for the incredible performance.

  • This was an event which formed part of a pilgrimage from source to sea, entitled 'Walking with the Wye' and supported by the umbrella organisation 'Save the Wye'. Fiona played three duets she had written for Violin and Viola, inspired by Water. The concert was held in St Michael's church, Tintern, on the banks of the River Wye, with Nick Day playing Viola. The works were 'Rainy Autumn Day', 'Yearning' and 'Midsummer Rain' (which form a continuous pair of pieces), and 'Reconciliation'.
Fiona also read her poem 'The Swan's Disdain', played three pieces for solo violin by Celia Harper, and conducted an informal choral group singing rounds she had composed specially for the occasion.
