Fiona T Frank - Concerts 2025

A busy start to the year

This year Fiona has already completed a chamber opera, a number of pieces for basset horn, clarinet and piano, a violin sonata and a piece for solo violin. The chamber opera is for a chamber sized vocal & instrumental ensemble, and is of about an hour's duration. It is a modern day fairy tale about the healing power of nature.

'Soul of Women' event at Ferrara included Fiona's 'Flower Moon in Scorpio'

On March 8th, 2025, on the occasion of International Women's Day, UDI Ferrara organized a reading-concert dedicated to women in music, with the pianist Maggie S Lorelli and actress Irene Guadagnini.
The event, which took place at Palazzo Naselli Crispi, had the patronage of the Municipality of Ferrara and was supported by the Consorzio di Bonifica Pianura of Ferrara and the Consortium for Gender Equality.
The reading-concert 'Soul of Women' consisted of piano works by under-represented female composers, together with readings about their lives delivered by Irene Guadagnini; the programme included Fiona's piece 'Flower Moon in Scorpio'.

Premiere of 'Beaver Moon & the Autumn Dawn'

On Sunday 9th March 2025, Thierry Maison, basset horn, and Ludmilla Bodo, piano, played works by Danzi, Schumann, Beethoven and Fiona T Frank, in a concert for "Les amis d'Orvès" at Domaine d'Orvès, near Toulon, S. France. This is an intimate venue which is surrounded by a 'remarkable garden' in La Vallette-du-Var.

  • Fiona writes: "'The Beaver Moon' was the last supermoon of 2024. This powerful orb of light illuminated our valley with such potency and brilliance - giving us clarity and hope in the darkness. It was in these intense times that this music was written, expressing tender gratitude for the mesmerising beauty and magic of our natural world in times of conflict and greed. The music paints a scene with mellow timbres and exciting runs describing tricks of the moonlight on the surface of the water. There is a haunting beauty in the melodic phrases so expertly performed by Thierry. 'I was inspired to write this piece with Thierry & Ludmilla in mind and feel so grateful for their beautiful appreciation of my piece, with all the vivid & sultry colours of the basset horn & sensitive pianistic painting by Ludmilla. The moon rays are brought to life with the beautiful eloquent expression of Thierry and magical pianistic blends of light and colour. I am so deeply honoured and wished that I could be present'."

    'Kate' In Loving Memory

    Fiona writes:
"When I heard on a February Sunday afternoon that David was coming to perform at St Michael's Church in a concert to celebrate our beautiful Kate, I got straight down to work! We were still in a state of shock at Kate's sudden passing, & writing a violin piece for her was my way of coming to terms with her sudden departure.
"I will never forget the unique and elemental wellspring of energy that emanated from her cello sounds - as if from the core of the earth itself.... we miss her very much! I am deeply honoured to have written this for David to perform. It was wonderful to think of him playing as I wrote it and of course while painting a picture of Kate.
"The first few bars of the piece are a play on her name, 'Kate'. The nearest I could get to it was C A te (B) E. The repetition of these notes/letters of her name recur throughout the piece. I wanted to get some real harmony amid the melodic phrasing using double stops at times to give more intensity and density.
"The semiquaver bars on the last page represent the last moments of her life while on a respirator. This ending sees her ascend to an exalted state as she is drawn to the Light and at peace finally."
