Fiona Frank, Artist: Notes -

Fiona gained a BA Hons Fine Art in 1984 at Lancashire College of Art before moving to Bristol where she lived, painted, and taught art until 2007, when she relocated to Wales. Her art is inspired by Nature, her greatest teacher. She is an innate colourist, and has a drawing habit & loves to paint 'en plein air' to truly sense the animation & ambience of her chosen location.

Now happily settled in the Wye Valley, she is surrounded by an ever-changing canvas of beautiful woodlands, river & gorge scenes, which have brought her artistic composition into the magical realm of music. The sounds of birds & water are never far away.

On the Gallery page you will find a number of oil paintings created in the peaceful ambience of the bluebell woods in Springtime.

Fiona feels immensely privileged to be part of this everchanging landscape, where she has spent many an hour capturing precious moments in time beneath the tall trees & in the heart of the woodlands - keeping them alive for you to see in the vivid canvasses you have before you. This can be challenging sometimes, especially if bombarded by hailstones, rain or gusts of wind, or even marauding dogs!

She writes:

"Nature has always been my teacher and guide and our move to Tintern has fulfilled my spiritual needs for peace and closeness to the natural world."

In April & May, I celebrate the rich tapestry of bluebells, lacy garlic, and celandines that carpet the spaces between the trees. The curving path draws one into the magical world of nature spirits and lets the imagination begin a journey underneath the wooden arches of branches amidst the fragrant flowers. As a contrast to the woodland paintings, Cornish seascapes give a very different sense of space with pounding waves in a turbulent sea & sense of wild openness & freedom.
